Mega Mobile Movie Makers: Myths & Legends @ Lakehouse Arts: 9-13+ yrs

Learn how to use your smartphone or tablet in a creative way. Go beyond the easy Vine, Snapchat and Instagram video and create stories through skilful filming, editing, sound and creative processes all from your mobile phone or tablet.

 

In two fun but action-packed days you will explore how to use your device to get film quality results, explore different filming styles and techniques, storyboard and storytelling. Stories will explore myths, legends and heroes from your culture or imagination. Choose comedy, drama or horror and create your own live action story.

You will edit and produce your own live-action movie complete with sound and music. Attendees will be grouped together and work in a collaborative manner. The final result will be a short movie made entirely on your mobile device to share with whanau! This is a chance to explore the process of filmmaking using your own device and to go from start to finish.

 

Filmmaking is collaborative so attendees will work together and share ideas, stories and film in teams.

What we’ll be doing:

  • storyboarding/creative story exercises
  • mobile tips and tricks
  • In groups create a film script using a story starter, genre and MOTAT location
  • working collaboratively and planning your shoot
  • shooting – using mobile, direction, sound, acting
  • • editing – adding sound, music and titles

Participants need to bring:

  • Own mobile device (Android or iOS smartphone/tablet) with video capability
  • Charger for mobile device
  • Cable to transfer movies
  • Own lunch/snacks and water bottle
  • sunhat, sunscreen, raincoat
  • parent/guardian consent form
  • Morning Tea and editing stations provided.

Some participants will be eligible for MINA Youth Mentorship in order to further develop their mobile video production skills and stories as well as increasing their chances to get their mobile film to be selected for the #MINA2017 International Mobile Innovation Screening in Melbourne (AUS). Selected videos will also screen at Screenies Children’s Film Festival . Note: we can give no guarantees for selection for the festivals. The mentorship is at the discretion of MINA.
